Projectiles

38cm Sprgr L/4.6 m KZ m Hb : fuzed KZ C/27 weight 800 kg
This was the standard high explosive shell fitted with a nose fuse and a ballistic cap

38cm Sprgr L/4.5 m Bd Z m Hb : fuzed Bd Z C/38 weight 800 kg
This was the naval semi armour piercing shell with penetrating and ballistic caps; it was employed with the railway gun as an anti concrete shell

38cm Sprgr L/4.5 m KZ u Bd Z m Hb : fuzed Hbgr Z 40 K  (or Dopp Z 45K) and Bd Z 40K, weight 495.00 kg
The lightweight long range Siegfried Granate shell of Army design, it carried its nose fuse beneath a ballistic cap and was also provided with a base fuse. The bursting charge was 69 kg of TNT.

38cm R Gr L/4.6 : fuze unknown, weight 570.00 kg
This was a rocket assisted shell of similar design to the 28cm R Gr 4341. The rocket motor ignited after 16 sec flight and the maximum range was 67.80 km. The muzzle velocity with a special charge was 980 mps and the rocket motor consisted of 45 kg of solid propellant.
The shell was under development early in 1943 but it appears that it never reached production; no performance details are known.

Propellant Charges

Two charges were provided, one for use with the 800 kg shells and one for use with the 495kg Siegfried Granate.
The standard charge was divided into two portions for convenience in loading but was normally fired as a two part charge, through the base portion was sometimes used as a practice charge :
Hauptkartusche : 110 kg / R P C/388
Vorkartusche : 101 kg / R P C/38
The special Siegfried Ladung was also supplied in two sections, but this was divided for firing into Kleine or Grosse Ladungen :
Hauptkart "Siegfried Ladung" : 133 kg / Gudol R P.
Vorkart "Siegfried Ladung" : 123 kg / Gudol R P.
