Midget Submarine of the Second World War

Item 90 : Midget Submarine of the Second World War
Author Paul Kemp discusses why the major navies engaged in midget submarine construction, and then details all the types of craft that were built. They are broadly divided into three groups : human torpedoes, true midget submarines, and the suicidal machines threat were as lethal to their operators as they were to the enemy.

Deutsche U-Boote an feindlichen Küsten 1939 - 1945 - Kommandounternehmen -
Spionage und Sabotage -
Versorgungsfahrten

Andrea Miniatures
Item 244 : Das Boot
The German U-Boat in History and Diorama
This book is the first in a new series of publications by Andrea Press. In addition to the usual modeling treatment of the subject, there is considerable historical material, adding interesting images and data to the many books on German submarines that have been published since the end of World War II.
To achieve this ambitious goal, a skilled team of professionals has relevant information on submarines from many diverse sources. Previously unpublished photographs, the original building plans of the type VII C, biographies of the main German submarine aces of the two world wars, and many other features make this book a work of reference as well as an entertaining way to acquire knowledge and to learn surprising facts and trivia.
The first part of the book is dedicated to the history of submarine navigation from its beginning to the end of WWII. It focuses especially on the German U-Boat, as it was the most produced submarine ever and probably represents an epitome for submarine in general.
The second part shows how a spectacular diorama was built with a U-Boat in dry dock, while the crew and dock personnel prepare for the next mission. With more than 74 figures, this model is doubtless one of the most remarkable military miniature diorama ever built. A great deal of time and effort was needed for its completion.
In all, the book joins the fascinating fields of history and modeling in easy and captivating way, in an attempt to bring them closer to the discerning reader.

This book describes the life of a German U-boat from construction through to active service, and looks at commissioning, sea trials and the first patrol of a typical boat during the Second World War. This extensively illustrated book also offers a rare glimpse of domestic life on board a German U-Boat, focusing on what the ordinary seaman would have seen and experienced during his first weeks aboard a brand new boat. The author draws on the extensive archives of the U-Boot-Archiv, which is one of the world's leading sources of information on U-boats, and many of the photographs that appear in this book are previously unpublished. U-boats, the illustrated history

Item 180 : U-BOATS, The illustrated history of the raiders of the deep
A complete history of German Submarines, from the moment the victorious Allies deprived Germany of her U-boats in 1919, the German Navy was determined to regain the warships that had so nearly brought them victory in the Great War, Indeed, during the next world war, one of the fiercest, and most critical battles took place over a period of almost six years in the Atlantic, as German submarines sought to strangle the supply lines that kept Great Britain alive.
U-BOATS, a fascinating and comprehensive chronicle of the development, activities, and fate of all known German submarines, chronicles these undersea terrors - from early submersible designs through their operations in two world wars and to the late 1940s, when the last German subs were scuttled. It features the tactics and technology used to prey upon Allied warships and unarmed merchantmen. U-boats is an essential reference for naval historians and enthusiasts alike.

TYpe VII U-boat Item 216 : The Type VII U-Boat
Anatomy of the Ship
Complete with 1/150 scale fold-out plan
This highly acclaimed series aims to provide the finest documentation of individual ships and ship types ever published. It is a radical departure from the usual monograph approach, which concentrates on either the ship's service history, its technical details or external appearance. All of this aspects are included in the Anatomy of the Ship, but what makes the series unique is a complete set of superbly executed line drawings, both the conventional type of plan as well as explanatory perspective views, with fully descriptive keys. Although elaborate drawings are extremely popular in aviation publications, this is the first attempt to document a ship in similar depth - literally down to the nuts and bolts.

These drawings are accurate, visually exciting and totally comprehensive, offering ship buffs, historians and model makers a novel insight in to the technicalities of each ship type covered.

Wolf Pack Item 220 : Wolf Pack
The story of the U-boat in World War II
Germany's World War II U-Boat fleet represented the elite of their naval personnel. In terms of technology, training, tactics and combat successes, the U-Boat Waffe was far superior to that of any other combatant nation. The author examines the operational tactics of the U-Boat fleet, as well as describing the massive bunkers that housed them.
